9/11A simple stars and stripes ribbon displayed on the Dreamtargets homepage as a mark of respect. I had a few emails regarding the anniversary of this now seemingly distant tragedy, but nothing more.
1.46pm came and went. I was in the car, well actually one of Clare's cars, as my rubbish-tip of a vehicle - the one I'd been driving at the time of the terrorist attack, was being valetted at Clare's work. It probably had a few anniversary sandwich wrappers floating around in the back somewhere?
I got progressively more anguished as the day progressed, this might have had something to do with the fact that Gilbert might have Chicken-pox, or the fact that I've been copy-writing round-the-clock for a forthcoming exhibition, but more likely, my irritation at the TV and radio coverage of 9/11, which seemed brash, opportunist and in bad-taste.
I'm never comfortable with mediated displays of collective grief, prefering to internalise the whole thing, quiet and contemplative. I guess people coming into contact with me today would have thought that I was a bit 'moody' and I guess they were right.
Think Different
Thursday was rather better. The docs gave the all clear on Gilbert, which meant a green-light for the weekend's Paris trip. Hannah continues to demonstrate her newfound 'big-school' maturity and Clare appeared happy, if not a little exhausted. Daisy returned home from school and mentioned that they'd been using PCs today. She didn't like the experience 'I can't draw anymore' she said disheartened, 'it's different on this one!' she pointed at her iMac.
I knew this day was coming, the day when her proficient Mac-based Photoshop skills would be challenged by some clunky Microsoft-based PC software. It's a case of one step forward, two steps back.
Don't know how to address this one?
