Columbia dream endsSaturday afternoon. It's sunny and I'm driving a silver Volkswagen Beetle, returning from PC world on Radford Boulevard. As I reach Thackeray's Lane the afternoon serial on Radio 4 ends (Ian Rankin's Inspector Rebus investigates). I turn right into Gedling Road at the Arrow pub, next right is Derwent Crescent. I'm nearly home. A news bulletin interjects. 'Nasa reports that contact with space shuttle Columbia has been lost.' It sounds serious!
