Clarendon
College - Art Rebels
[Dream
target date - 1981]
(Above left to right; Stu, Rob and Paul with flag
stolen from hotel in South Kensington, London).
Although Clarendon
College was accustomed to the excesses of the art
department, a far more aggressive trend emerged in
1981 with the arrival of teenage art rebels; Rob Dixon,
Stuart Wood and Paul Wheat.
Their subversive
acts were typified by their self-penned fanzine entitled
'Egotistic Crap' - A
deliberate reaction against student socialists, union
hacks and 'right-on' lecturers. This vitriolic publication
caused a real outcry and proved a major headache for
a department already under pressure from the authorities
to fall into line with other more vocational (conservative)
courses.
Warning!
- Egotistic Crap contains material that some people
may find offensive. |

POSTSCRIPT:
Paul Wheat was fortunate enough to survive the 'Egotistic
Crap' witch-hunt and went on to produce even worse
material at Mansfield College of Art. He left
college and moved down south to Cornwall where he
learned to surf and was eventually deported to Australia
where he now lives.
