MADE IN SHEFFIELD (DVD) The Birth of Electronic
Pop 1977-82
DVD Release 26 April 2004
The best post-punk music in Europe was electronic
music and for five years the best electronic music
came from Sheffield.
Made in Sheffield documents the evolution of the
Human League, Cabaret Voltaire, Heaven 17 and ABC,
who emerged from Sheffield's music scene in the late
70's. Their dream was to destroy rock music. The result
was the creation of some of the most influential sounds
in pop music.
Rare archive footage, soundtrack and exclusive interviews
with the famous, almost famous and not famous at all
pull you directly into the Sheffield music scene complete
with fanzines, nightclubs, weird bands, DIY record
labels and all the ambition and creativity that made
time so special. Loaded with endearing moments and
humour, it captures the essence of the seldom portrayed
aftermath of Punk and the spirit of the early 80's
New Wave movement.
Featuring: Phil Oakey, Joanne Catherall and Susan
Sully (Human League), Martyn Ware and Ian Craig Marsh
(original members and founders of the Human League
and Heaven 17), Jarvis Cocker (Pulp), Chris Watson
(Cabaret Voltaire), Stephen Singleton (Vice Versa/ABC),
John Peel and many other faces and bands that made
this scene unique.
