Just visible behind the fountains on South Parade are a rank of the famous Nottingham Black and White cabs, which were painted all-black, with white bonnets and boot lids.

The summers of 1982 and 1984 saw scorching temperatures of 30 degrees and over, with Police advising the public not to swim in the nearby River Trent or to dive off bridges into the water.
