The Nottingham Playhouse bar is located just behind the Albert Hall and Institute. On this night, 9th September 1982, pop duo Yazoo, featuring Vince Clarke and Alison Moyet, appeared at Rock City.

This revealing excerpt from a 1980's diary illustrates a typical scene in the Playhouse bar:
'...Alex McFadden was centre stage in his Gary Numan jump-suit, Martin Cook in tight yellow trousers and black dinner jacket, Melanie Rowing-Parker in fake leopard skin and Paul Booth wearing one of his home-made Mediterranean suits.’
