The Old Corner Pin, Parliament Street, 1989.
Described as a ‘City-centre time capsule’, this multi-roomed pub was kept by Eddie Heppenstall from 1980 to 1989. This pub takes its place in Nottingham history as being the site of the last Maypole in 1780 and for a network of medieval caves running underneath its foundations. It once featured a ‘half pint bar’ where only half measures were served, to encourage the sensible consumption of alcohol.
The pub changed its name from The Horse and Groom in 1911 and served its final pint in 1989 after trading for 250 years. Eddie’s bar staff included Gayle Foster, Janet Townsend, Grace Bradshaw and Shirley Eaton. Although the pub façade remains, the site has since housed several retail outlets including a healthfood shop, Nottingham’s first Disney store and latterly, Etam clothes shop. |
