Labour Exchange, Castle Boulevard, 1983.

The doorway at the side of this building bears the stone inscription ‘Vacancies’. This certainly struck a chord in August 1983, when unemployment in the UK reached 3 million, and 1,335 people joined the ranks of Nottingham’s out-of-work, putting the county above the national jobless average.
