Number 96 had housed the Cairnsmore Snack Bar, thirty years earlier, but in the 80s had fallen into a dilapidated state.

With the expansion of The Nottingham Trent University, or Trent Polytechnic, as it was known in 1988, these houses had to be cleared to make way for the new Bass Management Centre which today houses a student library and computer facilities.
