ABC Cinema, Chapel Bar, 1982.

This cinema first came to life as the Carlton Cinema in 1939, but was renamed the ABC in 1959.

Punk star Hazel ‘O Conner visited this complex on 16 September 1980 to promote her film ‘Breaking Glass’. Shops on the right include Nottingham Lighting Centre, Britton’s fruit shop, Body Shop, The Good Companions Restaurant, Smalley’s Hat Shop and Johnstone Lingerie.

Demolition work in 2001 uncovered the remains of an ancient town wall. This side of Chapel Bar is now being redeveloped as Chapel Quarter.
