Garage, Sneinton Road, 1988.

Situated next door to ‘The‘Lamp’ pub, this garage lives on, but its magnificent hand-gilded windows have long gone. Formerly known as Claringburn and Codd’s, and now a tyre-fitters, converted shops a few doors away now extol the virtues of ‘City Living’.

In the 1980s, the hi-rise flats in the background on Manvers Street were the focus of an emergency when the fire brigade were called to the upper levels. A man had placed an ironing board across the outside balcony in order to form a makeshift sun bed, then climbed on top and fallen asleep, fifteen storeys up!
