Vacancies board for Custance textiles, 4 Plumptre Street, 1988.

This manufacturer was famous for many products, including ladies lingerie, panties, briefs, nightdresses and pyjamas.

During World War Two, Custance produced mosquito tents and curtains to help the war effort.

Now Plumptre Street’s warehouses are being converted into luxury apartments, but the memory of Goodluds cardboard box factory, Tathams lace manufacturers and Romaines TV engineers will remain for some.
