Loading dock, Hollowstone, 1989.

Now converted into luxury accommodation, these factories would have housed C E Dawkins and William A Smith’s lace manufacturers, whose workers may have relaxed in the Old White Lion pub on Hollowstone, in the 1920s.

Sandblasted and refurbished, and with all signage and references to their industrial past removed, at the time of writing (2002) these single-bedroom penthouse apartments now command price tags of £500,000 in the modern property market.
