Travellers, Old Market Square, 1982.
The travellers are passing a bus bound for Rise Park, which is parked on Beastmarket Hill in front of a former Barclays bank, now The Goose On The Square public house.
Street musicians are often seen with penny whistles, busking for spare change, but few can match the persistence of ‘C & A Xylophone Man’ who sits on Smithy Row playing his instrument, pausing only to smoke a cigarette or talk to pigeons.
The most well known busker of the 1980’s was the ‘Smiling Banjo Man’ who entertained the crowds outside C & A on Lister Gate. |
